Steve Levasseur
Peacefully in Cowansville, on February 15, 2026, at the age of 81, Steve Levasseur of Frelighsburg passed away. He was the beloved husband of Hélène Doucet, son of the late Lucien Levasseur and the late Simonne Lavoie, and brother of the late Joanne (Michel).
Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn his daughters, Stéphanie (Mario Ouellet) and Laurence (Nicolas Gaudette), and his granddaughters, Béatrice and Astrid—his “little joys,” who were a great source of comfort to him. He will also be sadly missed by his brothers Donald (Rachel), Serge (Nicole), and Norman (Hope), his brothers- and sisters-in-law of the Doucet family, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A proud native of the Saguenay region, it was in Acadia that he met his beloved Hélène. Together, they shared nearly sixty years of adventures, laughter, and companionship, marked by a few great surprises along the way. Always a good audience, a man as wise as he was devoted, he was forever lending a kind ear to anyone who needed it.
A farmer by chance, Steve quickly fell in love with apple growing upon his arrival in the Eastern Townships. Respected for his engagement and unifying spirit, he distinguished himself through his leadership as President of the Quebec Apple Growers and of the Canadian Horticultural Council, leaving a significant mark on the agricultural community. Whether on a boat, in the orchard, or around a cribbage table, his steady calm was his greatest strength. His legacy lives on in the lasting bonds he forged and the values he passed down to us.
The family will receive condolences at Bishop Stewart Memorial Church, located at 5 Garagona Road in Frelighsburg, on Friday, April 3, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Saturday, April 4, beginning at 1:00 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held at 4:00 p.m., followed by a light lunch at the same location.
